Stakken - Kvaløysletta, Tromsø, Norway.

Stakken

At Stakken, south of Kvaløysletta, stands a row of boathouses, eleven in all, most of them built using old, traditional building techniques, with turfed roofs. Behind the row of boathouses lie several buildings big and small – a “båtskott” (boat shed), smithy, wooden shack, fishing hut and toilet.

Most of the land is owned by Arctandria, Tromsø Kystlag (founded in 1979). The company also owns two of the boathouses and the buildings behind, and the site has been to a great extent built on a voluntary basis. The rest of the boathouses are privately owned, mostly by members of Arctandria.

In the boathouses are housed old and new Nordland (wooden) boats of different sizes – the largest is the fembøring (five-man boat) Salarøy, which is owned by the Salarøy foundation and is housed in the large boathouse. In its establishment phase at Stakken, the Arctandria association has set up its own buildings, but its main aim is to preserve the coastal culture by restoring old boats, building new ones using traditional principles and holding a variety of courses in restoration, smithcraft, sweeping, etc., as well as 4-H.

The buildings were built according to old designs and building techniques, mostly during the 1980s and 1990s. In many cases there are new materials as well as the re-use of old building materials, which has been the custom along the coast of North Norway for hundreds of years.

Winter Photography in Norway

I am currently in Norway, and will be for the next few weeks. It is winter, it has been cold but there wasn't any new snow here for some time. Until a few days ago, when there was a fresh amount snow dumped on the landscape here. Perfect conditions to get outside for a few typical Norwegian winter shots! And to enjoy the bitter cold. I do like this kind of weather, am I crazy? Maybe.. Enjoy the photographs and the video.

Good news! / Gode nyheter! I am very proud to share with you that as of right now I am officially a Norwegian Tourism Specialist conferred by Visit Norway which is the official Tourism Board in Norway.

To be officially recognized as a specialist by Visit Norway & Innovasjon Norge makes me extremely happy and eager to represent this amazing country in Scandinavia. I’ll be heading to Norway in March 2022 again, and possibly later in the year also.

I am very excited to say the least. If you are interested in booking a guided (photography) trip to Norway do not hesitate to contact me.

Norway 2014: Revised

Do you know that feeling, when scrolling through your older work, and feel like you could've done a better job at processing and editing some of that work? Well I do. I very often stumble upon old shots that I first thought to be not good enough to make it as a upload. Anywhere. Actually some of them I have completely ignored after taking them. Thinking they were no good. Just leaving them on my harddrive, taking up space. Never to be shown to the world.

For this particulate reason I like to dive into some folders on my pc with old shots. And so I did last night. Norway. October. 2014. A super amazing trip (I got married during this trip) where I shot a ton of decent material. But there's just so much photographs never being looked at the way I did last night... After playing around with editing a few of them I was quite happy with the selection shown below.

Let me know what you think of these shots! Do you have old and untouched shots laying around? You know what to do!!

These shots were taken in Ersfjordbotn, Tromvik, Rekvik, Grøtfjord and Sommarøy.  All located just outside of Tromsø
